This article is so important to help explain not just the role of mental health professionals in Nazi Germany, but the conspicuous absence of mental health professionals --across the spectrum from psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical workers and more--from the immigration, covid debate and gun availability arenas. These people have NEVER been known for their courage during rocky times in history. Even those that have not participated in atrocities then and now (and many did and are) have a reputation for sitting on the sidelines and waiting out conflict so they can pick through the rubble and take what they want, and come out after conflict and enjoy the benefits without ever having to risk themselves the way so many of us have done. As the world degenerates into localized World War Three they just sit and be quiet and carry on their lives, or even worse pick the side they think will win and take a place there.
Everyone is out here pitching in to keep and regain our freedoms in this insane world; men, women, white, blacks, green polkadot; just about every country in the world; doctors, lawyers, engineers every field you can think of EXCEPT any decent representation from mental health professionals. It's hard to tell, but I don't think very many of them have signed the Great Barrington Declaration.
A whole bunch of mental health and health care professionals went on a protest spree across the country within the last two years, but mainly it was to increase their pay and benefits, and make their job easier. Although they claimed to have patient interests at heart the truth is that when they finally reached a deal and the dust settled, patients don't seem to me to be very much better off.
The role of mental health proffesionals in Nazi Germany was atrocious at best and fairly well documented. But it was never addressed by the proffession itself, not then and not now, and in fact these professionals were "central and critical to the success of Nazi policy, plans, and principles. Psychiatrists, along with many other physicians, facilitated the resolution of many of the regime's ideological and practical challenges, rather than taking a passive or even active stance of resistance" but in fact, after the war "many of those involved continued to practice and conduct research long after the war and were protected by colleagues."
And I guarantee you if something isn't done the same thing will HAPPEN AGAIN.
